HR Assisstant jobs

HR Assisstant jobs

An HR assistant’s job is to keep an organisation's personnel records up-to-date and help out with general HR duties. HR assistant jobs are a great way to enter into the highly competitive Human Resource industry.

Typical HR assistant job responsibilities include:

  • Preparing reports for managers elsewhere within the organisation
  • Screening job applicants to obtain information such as education and work experience
  • Updating appropriate forms when an employee receives a promotion or changes address
  • Requesting references from present or past employers of applicants
  • Informing job applicants of their acceptance or rejection for employment
  • Conducting Internet research to locate resumes
  • Keeping track of address changes, changes in job titles, benefits, and salaries. Tasks may vary depending on the size of the organisation

What qualifications do I need for an HR Assistant job?

HR assistant jobs are highly competitive and can be entered in a number of different ways. You could apply for an HR graduate training scheme, most of which are open to those from any degree discipline. Diplomates should check with individual providers about the validity of HND qualifications. A pre-entry postgraduate qualification in HR/personnel management could be useful. Many postgraduate courses require a degree for entry but some may consider an HND plus relevant experience. Some graduates move into HR assistant jobs after having experienced placements in several areas of an organisation as part of a general management training programme.

Starting as an HR assistant in an HR department can provide useful experience and it may be possible to gain promotion to HR Officer or HR management. Although it is possible to enter HR work without being professionally qualified, a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) qualification is often preferred by employers and is required to move up the HR ladder.
